How to set up Fanatec CSL DD and GT DD Pro on Mac with force feedback (CrossOver + Torqer)

The Fanatec CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro work on Apple Silicon Macs with native force feedback through Torqer. Both wheelbases share the same internal protocol, so Torqer handles them identically: plug in the USB cable, switch to PC mode, and force feedback works in every supported game running through CrossOver. No Fanatec Control Panel needed, since that software is Windows-only and Torqer replaces it entirely on macOS.
One thing to know upfront: the brake pedal has a known compatibility issue when pedals are connected to the wheelbase via RJ12. This is a CrossOver limitation, not something Torqer can fix. Throttle and steering work fine, and there are workarounds that restore braking for most pedal setups. This guide covers the working setup tested on a CSL DD and GT DD Pro with CrossOver 26.1.
Supported Fanatec models
| Base | Torque | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fanatec CSL DD | 5/8 Nm | Fully supported | Confirmed in Assetto Corsa, BeamNG.drive |
| Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro | 5/8 Nm | Fully supported | Shares CSL DD backend, confirmed working |
| Fanatec ClubSport DD+ | 12 Nm | Beta | Same protocol confirmed, in-game validation pending |
The ClubSport DD, DD1, and DD2 likely share the same protocol family but have not been tested. If you own one and want to help, contact us.
What you’ll need
- A Mac with Apple Silicon (M-series) running macOS 13 or later
- A supported Fanatec wheelbase (see table above)
- CrossOver (paid app, 14-day free trial available)
- Torqer (free download, includes a 5-day full-feature trial)
- A sim racing game that supports force feedback (see confirmed games below)
Step 1 – Set your wheel to PC mode
Fanatec wheelbases ship in console mode by default. Torqer requires PC mode, indicated by a red LED on the base.
To switch modes, short-press the power button on your wheelbase. Each press cycles through the available modes, so keep pressing until the LED turns red.
| Base | Red LED | Yellow LED | Other LEDs |
|---|---|---|---|
| CSL DD | PC mode (required) | Compatibility mode | Green = Xbox |
| GT DD Pro | PC mode (required) | Compatibility mode | Blue/Purple = PlayStation |
Important: If you leave the wheel in PlayStation or Xbox mode, Torqer will not detect it. Always confirm the red LED before proceeding.
Yellow compatibility mode also works with Torqer, but red PC mode gives the widest game compatibility.
Step 2 – Set up CrossOver
If you already have CrossOver installed with a game bottle, skip to Step 3.
Download CrossOver (the 14-day free trial needs no credit card), create a Windows 10 64-bit bottle, and enable D3DMetal and MSync in the bottle settings. Then install Steam (or your launcher) inside the bottle and download your game. For detailed per-game instructions, see the game-specific guides linked in the confirmed games section below.
Tip: Enable macOS Game Mode before launching any game. It reduces background load and improves frame pacing in CrossOver. Guide: How to enable Game Mode on Mac for CrossOver and Wine games
Step 3 – Install Torqer and enable FFB
3a. Download and install Torqer
Download Torqer, open the DMG, and drag Torqer to your Applications folder.
Launch Torqer. On first launch it starts a 5-day trial with all features enabled, no account needed.

3b. Confirm your wheel is detected
Your Fanatec base should appear in Torqer’s sidebar with a green connected state. The CSL DD shows as “Fanatec CSL DD” and the GT DD Pro shows as “Fanatec GT DD Pro”. If the wheel doesn’t appear, confirm you are in PC mode (red LED) and try unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable.
3c. Install FFB into your CrossOver bottle
- In Torqer, click Install FFB in the sidebar
- Select the bottle where your game is installed
- Click Install
This installs Torqer’s FFB components into the bottle so the game’s force feedback signal reaches your Fanatec wheel.
3d. Select your game in Torqer
Click your game in Torqer’s sidebar. Native FFB activates automatically when the game launches.

Step 4 – Launch a game and test FFB
The launch order matters:
- Make sure Torqer is running and your wheel is connected (red LED)
- Launch the game through CrossOver
- In the game’s control settings, confirm the wheel is detected and bind your axes (steering, throttle, brake)
- Enable force feedback in the game’s settings
- Drive a few laps and feel the wheel respond
If the wheel steers but you feel no force, raise the in-game FFB strength first. Then raise Native FFB Intensity in Torqer if you want more overall output.
Brake pedal workaround
The brake pedal does not register correctly in CrossOver when connected to the wheelbase via RJ12. This affects all Fanatec pedal sets in this configuration and is a CrossOver/Wine limitation, unrelated to Torqer. Throttle, clutch, and steering all work normally.
There are two proven workarounds depending on your pedal hardware:
Option A: Cable swap (ClubSport V3, CSL Elite V2)
If your pedal set has separate removable RJ12 cables for each pedal, you can move the brake cable from the Brake port to the Clutch port on the pedal control box. CrossOver correctly reads the clutch axis, so your brake pedal will register as clutch input. Bind it as your brake axis in-game.
This sacrifices clutch functionality, which is an acceptable trade-off for most sim racers who use paddle shifters.
Option B: USB direct (CSL Pedals with Load Cell Kit)
If you have CSL Pedals with the Load Cell Kit, connect them directly to your Mac via USB instead of routing through the wheelbase. When connected this way, all three pedal axes (throttle, brake, clutch) register correctly in CrossOver.
Note: This workaround has been confirmed with the CSL Pedals + Load Cell Kit over USB. Basic CSL Pedals without the Load Cell Kit have not been tested in USB-direct mode.

What if neither option applies?
If your pedal set doesn’t support either workaround, you can still drive using throttle and steering with native force feedback. The brake limitation may improve in a future CrossOver update.
Confirmed working games
Many games have been tested and confirmed with Fanatec wheelbases, here are some examples with links to full setup guides:
More games work with Fanatec wheels through Torqer. For the full compatibility list, visit the game compatibility section. Each game linked above has its own setup guide covering CrossOver settings, in-game configuration, and troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting
Torqer does not detect the wheel
Confirm the LED on the base is red (PC mode) and short-press the power button to cycle modes if needed. Unplug and reconnect the USB cable, connecting directly to the Mac rather than through a USB hub.
The wheel is detected but there is no force feedback
Make sure Torqer is running before launching the game. Confirm FFB is installed in the correct CrossOver bottle (Torqer sidebar, Install FFB). If needed, uninstall and reinstall.
Full checklist: No force feedback on Mac? Why it happens and how to fix it
FFB feels weak
Raise the in-game FFB strength first, then increase Native FFB Intensity in Torqer. If force still feels light, check that the in-game setting isn’t capped at a low percentage.
The brake pedal does not work
See the brake pedal workaround section above. This is a known CrossOver limitation affecting all Fanatec pedal sets connected via RJ12 to the wheelbase.
Torqer shows “Fanatec CSL DD” instead of “GT DD Pro”
Torqer reads the wheel’s USB product name to distinguish the two. If it shows the wrong name, unplug and reconnect. In rare cases the USB product string may not be read cleanly; the label has no effect on FFB quality or behavior.
In-game binding picks up phantom button presses (GT DD Pro)
The GT DD Pro reports extra HID buttons that some games interpret as permanently held inputs, which can interfere with axis or button binding. If you see unexpected bindings during setup, clear them and rebind manually. This only affects binding; it does not affect force feedback or normal driving.
The game does not detect the wheel at all
Some games need the wheel connected before launch to recognize it during their input scan. Quit the game, confirm the wheel is plugged in and showing as connected in Torqer, then relaunch.
The wheel becomes unresponsive during gameplay
On Macs with 16 GB of RAM, heavy CrossOver and Steam memory pressure can temporarily make USB devices unavailable. Close other apps to free memory, or consider quitting Steam’s overlay and unnecessary background processes inside the bottle.
